Today’s Ayn Rand’s Birthday. She’d be 115, if she were still alive. She was 77 when she died — 38 years ago.
Life expectancy was about 40 in the 1800’s. In 1905, when she was born, it was about 50.
I was born in 1975. Life expectancy was about 70. Today, it’s about 80, so it’s not unreasonable to shoot for 100. I’m greedy, though, so I’m shooting for 154.
Why has life expectancy continued to rise since the 1800’s? It wasn’t the government…
“Economic power is exercised by means of a positive, by offering men a reward, an incentive, a payment, a value; political power is exercised by means of a negative, by the threat of punishment, injury, imprisonment, destruction. The businessman’s tool is values; the bureaucrat’s tool is fear.”
